QUITSAT

is an Italian project funded by the Italian Space Agency - ASI - devoted to Air Quality (AQ) assessment through the fusion of observations coming from polar and geostationary satellite sensors and ground-based data collected by DOAS spectrometry, multispectral solar radiometry, lidar techniques and chemical transport  modeling.

QUITSAT Pilot Project (2006-2009), led by Carlo Gavazzi Space, is aimed to implementation of 3 subsystems for the main functionalities of Monitoring, Forecasting and Planning.
Monitoring  provides measurements of the concentration at the ground of Particulate Matter, namely PM2.5, and gaseous pollutants (NO2, O3, SO2, HCHO) through the fusion of EO data, ground-based measurements and chemical transport  modeling;
Forecasting is encharged with the provision of concentrations and spatial distribution of  PM and gaseous pollutants at short term period;
Planning is a stand-alone tool dedicated to the Air Quality planning support through evalutations of the impact of sustainable emission scenarios.
